Yesterday’s Wednesday security operation in Mbale City, Uganda, resulted in the arrest of 40 individuals at Namatala ward in the Industrial City division.
The operation, carried out by police, was prompted by local complaints about rising cases of theft, drug abuse, and rape.
According to Hamuza Banja, the Deputy Resident City Commissioner of the Industrial City division, Namatala was targeted as a hotspot, but the operation will be extended to other areas in the division.
Rogers Taitika, the Elgon Region Police Spokesperson, confirmed the operation, stating that suspects were screened, and some were taken to Mbale City Magistrate Court.
However, he declined to release their names, citing the ongoing nature of the operation.
This operation is part of a broader effort to address crime and security concerns in Mbale City. Similar operations have been conducted in the past, including one that resulted in the arrest of 27 students involved in criminal activities.
