A section of elders have written a petition letter to the ministry of constitutional affairs, ministry of gender and social development and to the parliament of Uganda protesting against Umukuka Mike Mudoma and Minister of gender Peace Mutuzo for amending the name of Institution to Inzu ya Bugisu.
The dispute centers on a recent publication in the Uganda Gazette, dated April 8th, which officially changed the institution’s name. This change, according to the cultural leaders, was made without any consultation with the relevant councils or the general assembly, the supreme body of the institution.
According to Nelson Wedayila, the former speaker of Inzu yamasaba who is the chief petitioner told our reporter this morning on Tuesday that they have already submitted their petitions to three office waiting feed back.
He says that they want the two institutions to cancel the name and put it back Inzu yamasaba since Mike Mudoma the Umukuka never consulted to elders and stake holders before amending.
Stephen Masiga, the sporksperon of Inzu ye Bugisu has advised Wedayila and his group to go to court if they want to say they first consult to all elders and agreed with them before submitting to the ministry of gender for amendment.
He says according to the Uganda Constitution, we are Bagisu not Bamasaba meaning the names of Bamasaba don’t deserve to be named the cultural institution.
