Sironko Woman Disowns Son for Voting Rival, Minister Nambozo

Aisha Nalubega, a resident of Bukomba Cell in Mutufu Town Council, Sironko District, has denounced her biological son, Wanzala Muzafaru, 23, for refusing to support her in the local elections and instead voting for her rival, Hon. Florence Nambozo. The election was for the Women’s League chairperson position for their village and took place on Wednesday, May 7, 2025.

The elections, initially scheduled for May 6, 2025, were disrupted by chaos after residents protested the sudden reshuffling of their known registrar and alleged smuggling in of a candidate to compete against Minister Nambozo.

During Wednesday’s re-election, Minister Nambozo emerged victorious with 35 votes, while Aisha Nalubega garnered only 12.

After the results were announced, Nalubega criticized the heavy security deployment and claimed that some delegates were hidden from her, which limited her mobilization efforts. She also publicly disowned her son, accusing him of betrayal. “Let him go and stay with the minister. I cannot continue living with someone who doesn’t believe in me,” she said.

Hon. Florence Nambozo, who is also the Woman MP for Sironko District, urged residents to separate personal emotions from politics. She emphasized that everyone has the right to choose their leaders and called for continued support as she campaigns for the district party chairperson position.

NRM spokesperson Emmanuel Dombo described the elections as largely successful across the region, despite a few issues in some villages. He noted that some registrars acted unprofessionally, allegedly favoring relatives who were candidates, which led to confusion. He revealed that re-elections were conducted in 87 villages across Bugisu.
