One dead , five in critical condition during Serious Road Accident along Mbale-Iganga Highway

A single serious road accident occurred on May 8, 2025, at around 1:09 pm in Nabiswa village along the Mbale-Iganga Highway in Kibuku district.
A Mitsubishi Fuso truck (UBQ 266Z) driven by Micheal Isabirye was traveling from Kapchorwa to Kaliro, carrying matooke and passengers.
The driver Isabirye died on the spot and five passengers got serious injuries and were rushed to the Mbale regional referral hospital for treatment.
According to Acting PRO Police Bukedi North Wilfred Kyapasa , the truck’s left rear tyre burst, causing the driver to lose control. The vehicle swerved off the road, and the passengers and matooke fell off. Several passengers sustained injuries and were rushed to Iganga Hospital for medical attention.
He says the scene was visited by police officers, who drew a sketch plan and took photographs. The vehicle was towed to Tirinyi Police Station for inspection. Investigations are ongoing to establish the number of victims and their particulars.
The preliminary cause of the accident is believed to be the tyre burst.
