Nkoma SS Crowned Champions in Rugby 15s Girls

Nkoma Secondary School in Mbale City has emerged champion in the Rugby 15s Girls category in the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) National Ball Games 1. The school was crowned champion during the closing ceremony held at Bukedea Stadium on Tuesday, May 13, 2025.
Nkoma SS’s path to victory included defeating the defending champions, Airforce Army Secondary School from Entebbe, and St. John’s Wakitaka. The team’s outstanding performance was led by Aranit Patience, who was awarded the Most Valuable Player in the girls’ category.
Hajj Kawanguzi Abubakr, Headteacher of Nkoma SS, expressed gratitude to the coaches, players, and stakeholders for their hard work and dedication. “We have challenges, but we are moving forward. Our target as a school is to improve on the talent of our students, and I believe we are making progress,” he noted. Kawanguzi also thanked the Board of Governors, Parents-Teachers Association, and the government for their support towards the school’s programs.
Katumba Hamisi, Rugby Coach, said that the girls had felt disappointed the previous year after failing to win the trophy at Ndejje, but they had learned from their mistakes and held onto hope. “We are going back to prepare for National Games 11 to defend our title,” he added.
Gamisha Mariam, the team captain, thanked the headteacher for his support for sports, stating that other headteachers should prioritize sports as it can be a source of income. “We appreciate the continued support from our supporters, fans, teachers, and the media,” she appreciated.
This victory marks a significant milestone for Nkoma SS, and the school looks forward to continued success in sports. With this achievement, Nkoma SS has demonstrated its commitment to nurturing talent and excellence in sports, setting a shining example for other schools to follow.
