Namisindwa: Namisindwa District Council yesterday on Thursday during 2025/26 financial year budget laying passed a resolution demanding that Martha Muyama, the Secretary for Health and female councilor representing Bumbo Town Council, apologize for allegedly spreading false information.
The controversy surrounds 400 million shillings received by the district in this financial year of 2024/25 to construct a theater at Bumbo Health Center III, located at Bumbo town council which was reportedly lobbied by Dr. Sarah Khanakwa, the Namisindwa District Woman MP aspirant.
The council accuses Muyama of claiming that the funds were secured by Khanakwa asserts that she personally lobbied the Ministry of Finance to obtain the funds.
The motion was raised at floor of council by Alex Molokoi Sectary for education also doubling as councilor representing Bukiabi sub county and was seconded by Moses Waburoko Councilor representing Tsekululu sub county then councilors unanimously supported it before approval by speaker Dorothy Walukawu Nebokhe.
In his motion, Molokoi says that 400 million shillings which is currently building the theater at Bumbo health center III was lobbied from the ministry of finance by district LCV chairperson Jackson Wakwaika.
He says it’s unfair for district executive committee member to spread wrong information in public rather than telling the truth to the public which undermines the district with the aim of promoting his political agenda and of Khanakwa which can’t be tolerated.
Moses Waburoko the councilor representing Tsekululu sub county says that they want Muyama to apologize for the house before the next council seating or else be sacked by the appointing authority .
He asked Muyama to explain under which capacity Khanakwa can go to the ministry of finance and lobby for that money to the district yet she holds no serious position in government
Muyama when contacted refused to apologize, dismissing the council’s actions terming it as “dirty and cheap” politics his fellow councilors are trying to play.
“They wanted me to support Peace Khalayi the opponent to Khanakwa and I refused that’s why they are opening wars against me but they will not manage because uganda is Democratic country whereby each person support his or her candidate without threats”Muyama said.
The district speaker, Dorothy Nebokhe Walukawu, emphasized that the resolution’s implementation lies with the district chairperson.
Khanakwa defended her role in securing the funds, stating that she has evidence to support her claim. She criticized the councilors for politicizing development initiatives, which she believes will hinder the district’s progress.
Jackson Wakwaika the Namisindwa district chairperson ignored Muyama saying this political season each person wants to sell his or her candidates by uttering whatever want to sell in public.
The council’s resolution, passed unanimously, gives Muyama an ultimatum to apologize or risk losing her District Executive Committee (DEC) position.
