The Bank of Uganda’s Mbale branch joined members of the Eastern Corporate Club (ECC) on Thursday, April 4, 2025. ECC’s motto, “Corporates for Better Livelihood,” was brought to life as they held a workshop on investing in Uganda securities. The workshop, led by Sarah Musika Mirembe, took place at the Mbale Sports Club in Mbale City.
Ms. Mirembe explained that government securities are debt instruments used by the government to borrow funds from the public, guaranteeing repayment. She noted that the public can invest funds with the government through their banks using depository accounts opened at the Bank of Uganda, with all investments held in electronic form.
Ms. Mirembe emphasized that investing is not just about numbers, but also about nation-building, safety, and patriotism. “Investing in government securities is not only about safeguarding your wealth, but also about investing in your country’s future,” she said. “It’s about legacy building – imagine telling your grandchildren, ‘I invested wisely and helped build our nation.'” She concluded, “Uganda Government securities – a legacy you can be proud of.”
Ms. Nekesa Justin, President of the Eastern Corporate Club (ECC), said the workshop was an opportunity to bring corporate members together to learn about financial disciplines and products such as bonds and bills. “We gained a lot from the workshop, acquiring knowledge about investments we were unaware of,” she added.
Many attendees expressed interest in opening bank accounts to explore investment opportunities. Ms. Justin also announced the club’s next outing, scheduled for the last Sunday of April, which will feature football, games, and networking.
