Banyole Tribe Urge Government to Expedite Gazetting of Cultural Leader

The Banyole tribe from Eastern Uganda, represented by their umbrella organization Luhuje (Parliament), has called on the government to expedite the process of gazetting their cultural leader, known as Sehulu.

This request was made on Saturday during the tribe’s annual general meeting held at Nakaloke playground Northern city division in Mbale City.

According to Hussain Kadimba, the Mbale City Assistant Resident City Commissioner is also doubling as Chairperson of Luhuje, the tribe is experiencing significant losses due to the absence of a gazetted cultural leader.

Kadimba noted that the tribe elected their leader last year, but efforts to secure gazettement from the Ministry of Gender have been unsuccessful.

He urged the Speaker of Parliament, who was the chief guest, to remind the President about the gazettement of their cultural leader. This would enable the Banyole tribe to have a recognized cultural leader, similar to other tribes in the country.

Rita Namuwenge, National Coordinator of Emyooga, also doubling as the Mbale city woman member of parliament to be present at the meeting, requested that the government consider the Banyole tribe for key positions to promote balance and representation.

Mike Mukula, representing the Speaker of Parliament, promised to take the request to the Speaker and subsequently to the President.

He encouraged the people of Bubyole to support and participate in government programs like Emyooga and PDM to improve their household incomes.
