The Bugwere cultural institution queen mother, Sarah Khariate Wayabire, has today Wednesday launched the Kisisira initiative, a cultural program aimed at imparting traditional values and skills to young girls.
Kisasira, a Lugwere term commonly known as Kisakati at Buganda Kingdom, refers to a secluded setting where elder women mentor girls on various aspects of life, including cooking, cultural practices, dressing, and behavior.
The launch took place at Kadama High Light Secondary School in Budaka district, where the program will run for five days starting yesterday Tuesday until Saturday this week.
According to Queen Mother Wayabire, the initiative seeks to instill manners and proper upbringing of the girl child, drawing from traditional African practices that have been lost due to modernization.
The queen mother encouraged the participating girls to embrace their culture and apply the skills they acquire to become responsible and well-rounded individuals.
Mbogo Kezekia, a parent, expressed his appreciation for the initiative, noting that it will help shape the future of Bugwere society by producing capable and respectful mothers.
He highlighted the importance of such training in preventing family breakdowns often caused by a lack of essential life skills among young mothers.
