Bukedi Strategic Plan; Minister Musenero begins implementation
The Minister for science Technology and Innovation Dr. Monica Musenero has started implementing the Bukedi Strategic Development Plan.
Last year 2024, Dr. Musenero engineered a move to eradicate Poverty from the Region but it needed a highly organized plan to tackle the long existing problem.
She came out with an idea of bringing the top cream of the region together to brainstorm ideas on how to resurrect the Bakedi from the Poverty grave.
The team dubed the Bukedi Think tank was tasked to come out with ideas that would address the issues raised.
Among their findings was that Bukedi was lacking a perennial cash crop which would sustainably help the natives.
Besides, Bukedi that consists of Pallisa, Kibuku, Tororo, Butebo, Busia, Budaka andButaleja had no common language compared to Regions like Busoga, Teso , Buganda among others which have a common language.
Minister Musenero was hence tasked to create a connection between different ethnicities and districts which she did through different engagements with leaders at different levels.
Another aspect that needed to be addressed was the issue of the President’s ban on wetland use for rice growing.
The Minister together with the thinktank had to create another source of livelihood and fish farming was highly recommend.
For the issue of the Perennial crops, Coffee and Cocoa were recommended to have sustainability.
The plan also included ventures like bee keeping and Poultry which do not need a lot of land.
President signs the Strategic Plan:
The President during the Minister’s Thanksgiving signed the the Strategic development plan and appealed the masses to embrace it.
“Am really happy with what Musenero has done. And this is the way to go. We have to stop working for the stomach and work for the pocket as well. Stop transporting poverty, we have tarmac roads but instead of transporting goods your instead transporting poverty. ”
He also appealed to the masses to stop land fragmentation. “Stop land fragmentation, be Like Musenero. She told me they have decided to merge the land and make investments and later share the profits.”
“This part of the world is very rich, I was flying over and you really see that after land, you see water, after water you see land. That’s not found anywhere. ” He added.
He preached the four acre model that he thinks can work best under the Parish Development Model.
Musenero Begins Implementation:
The Ministry for Science Under Productivity acceleration embarked on teaching the mass about farming with aim of earning much more that what is consumed commonly known as Ekibalo through Book keeping and accountability.
The program hasn’t only helped Bukedi but also some parts of the country like Sebei Sub Region ik Kween District where the masses were enlightened on financial literacy.
The exercise shall go on as the Minister aims to meet the National targets of poverty eradication in line with vision 2040.
She has however appealed to the Big boys of Bukedi to invest home to boost the current status of the communities in the region though Job and Wealth Creation.
