MANAFWA: In a testament to the transformative impact of government-led educational initiatives, Busumbu Primary School has reported a significant rise in student enrollment, reflecting growing confidence in the institution’s academic standards. The development was highlighted during a monitoring visit by Mrs. Mwolobi Sylivia, the Office of the National Chairperson (ONC) Coordinator for Manafwa District, who commended the school’s achievements while addressing critical challenges that require urgent intervention.
During her visit yesterday, Mrs. Sylivia was warmly received by the school administration, who shared insights into the institution’s recent successes. The Headmaster revealed that enrollment had surged from 1,476 pupils last year to an even higher figure this year, a trend attributed to the school’s outstanding performance in the 2024 Primary leaving exams assessments. Out of 51 candidates, one pupil achieved Division 1, 23 secured Division 2, 16 attained Division 3, 10 scored Division 4, and only one was ungraded. These results have bolstered the school’s reputation and attracted more families to enroll their children.
Mrs. Sylivia praised the school’s leadership and teachers for their dedication, noting that such achievements are a clear indicator of the positive outcomes of the government’s commitment to improving education standards. “The remarkable performance and increased enrollment at Busumbu Primary School are a testament to the hard work of the staff and the effectiveness of the monitoring and support initiatives” She said.
However, the visit also shed light on pressing challenges that threaten to hinder the school’s progress. Key issues identified include the lack of meals for pupils, a shortage of teaching staff, and inadequate infrastructure. Mrs. Sylivia emphasized the need for immediate action to address these gaps, underscoring the importance of collaborative efforts between the government, local authorities, and the community to ensure the school’s continued success.
In a show of gratitude, the school administration expressed appreciation for the ONC’s monitoring efforts, which have enabled them to identify and address critical challenges. “The motivation from the Office the National Chairman (ONC) has been invaluable in helping us strive for excellence. We are confident that with continued collaboration, we can overcome these obstacles and provide even better education for our children,” the Headmaster stated.
The visit concluded on a hopeful note, with Mrs. Sylivia reaffirming the government’s commitment to supporting Busumbu Primary School and other institutions across the country. Her efforts are part of a broader initiative to ensure the smooth operation of government primary schools, promote academic excellence, and address systemic challenges in Uganda’s education sector.
As Busumbu Primary School continues to build on its successes, the community remains optimistic that with sustained support and intervention, the institution will overcome its challenges and serve as a model for educational excellence in the Bugisu region.
