BUTALEJA: Sovereign Hasahya, the district youth leader for Butaleja, has urged the religious, non government organizations, Nangirisa development association(a group of Banyole who apparently support the less privileged) and Bunyole cultural institution to join the fight against early marriages in the district.
Speaking to East fm, Hasahya, complained that early marriages, teenage pregnancies and school dropout rate have raised up across Butaleja district, necessitating a great campaign against the vice.
According to Hasahya, the voices of: Bunyole cultural institution leadership, Nangirisa development association and the religious leaders have much believability in public.
She for instance got furious over the scenarial of Nahagulu primary school, where a pupil allegedly married off his classmate, and cohabitated next to the school compound, un touched. The office of education, last week broke the silence about the mess, threatening to arrest the parents of the boy, and girl, respectively; which caused the parents to run to yet unknown destination.
Betty Nesihwe, the district probation officer blames the pandering cases of early marriages, teenage pregnancies, defilement and school dropout, on the parents who embrace bribes.
Nesihwe, argued that there are many village courts that usually compromise the actors locally, at a cost. She, however, challenged the parents to be open and report the bad actors in society.
Butaleja district is famous for having the youngest grand mother, now at early 30s.
