Butaleja: The natives in Butaleja district have been mobilized to surrender their pets(dogs and cats) for castration, in a bid to mute the spread of Rabies, feared in Butaleja district.
Dr. Jackson Twebaze Ndahayo, the Butaleja district Veterinary Officer, in an interview, this morning stated that his department will start the castration exercise on Friday, in Budumba sub county, free of charge.
In the exercise, Ndahayo, said that they are doing it in collaboration with Vet Connect experts, aimed at limiting the increasing number of dogs and cats in the district.
He emphasized that the Male dogs will be castrated, while the females will have their cervix removed, and will be given enough medical care.
Dr. Ndahayo, further said that they opted to carry out the Neuter(castration), and Spay(cervical operation), following the cries from the community members, that the number of dogs and cats had increased in Butaleja, with various cases of dog and cat bites, and suggested for poisoning of the un friendly animals.
Ndahayo, also urged the public members whose dogs were not vaccinated recently, to bring them forth for vaccination.
