Butaleja: Police Investigate murder by mob

The Territorial Police in Butaleja is investigating a case of Murder by Mob action that occured on 18/3/2025 at 0800 Hrs.
IP Mugwe J Moses the Police Spokesman Bukedi South reveals that the incident occured in Jabusiba Village, Nakwasi Parish, Butaleja S/C, Butaleja District.
This incident was reported by one Keplimo Levie M/a aged 33 Yrs, Recovery Officer working WATU R/o Mbale District.
The deceased was identified as one Mwima Richard Alias Kajubi M/a, R/o Nakwasi Cell, Butaleja S/C, in Butaleja District.
It is alleged that on 18/3/2025 at around 0530hrs , Mwima Richard alias kajubi stole a motorcycle reg no UFU 799H Bajaj Boxers red in colour from Odoi David R/o of Tororo District, upon Odoi David discovering that his motorcycle was missing, he immediately went and reported the matter at CPS Tororo.
After reporting the matter to police, he informed Keplimo Levie a recovery officer in Watu motorcycle Company who immediately started tracking the said stolen motorcycle and viewed the deceased ridding it towards Leresi Village in Butaleja District.
He informed the Chairperson Leresi boda boda stage who also gathered his colleagues and started tracing for the said motorcycle and the suspect.
The residents allegedly landed on the said motorcycle hidden in the banana plantation covered with dry husks of beans at Leresi Village near the home of the deceased.
He was arrested to that effect and Keplimo Levie a recovery Officer, rode the said motorcycle to Butaleja CPS and reported hence handed in the motor cycle, shortly heard that the thief had been killed by the mob.
IP Mugwe J Moses reveals that During preliminary findings it was ascertained that the deceased was a notorious suspect linked to aggravated robberies of motorcycles and murder cases in the Region, who has been very elusive to arrests, and was being sought for, for prosecution purposes.

The Scene of crime was visited by D/CIDO, D/SOCO, a team of homicide and other staff.
The Body taken to Mbale City mortuary for postmortem.
“We condemn taking law into people’s hands (injustice) but rather always report and hand over suspects to lawful authorities such as Police for legal action / justice to prevail.” Said IP Mugwe J Moses the Police spokesman Bukedi South.
