Butaleja Police on spotlight for protecting defilers (courtesy photo)

A section of the Butaleja district people have raised up serious concerns about what they described as impunity of the Police officers of Butaleja district, who allegedly ignore to penalize  suspected defilers.

In an interview with East fm, Shaban Hamya, a parent, based in Nabagali Cell, Busolwe town council, said that he was disappointed by the way the Butaleja police officers mishandled the case in which his 16 year old daughter, a student of Busolwe ss, was allegedly defiled by a 19 year old male school dropout.

According to Hamya, his daughter conceived as  she was under the sponsorship by the Transformation Child Development Centre.

Helped by Transformation Child Development Centre, a non government organization, best known as “Compassion”, the boy was arrested and taken to Butaleja Central Police for action.

Unfortunately, on the evening of that particular day, the boy was granted a police bond. The parent further narrated that the boy, together with his pregnant daughter, celebrated as the boy boasted that he was set free because he is young, and vowed to marry the Minor, untouched.

This angered Shaban Hamya (parent), to engage the Transformation Child Development Centre for action.

Peter Mafabi, the manager for Transformation Child Development Centre(Compassion), told East fm that they cross examined the defiler, from the church, sub county, and the school; then proved that the suspected defiler is 19 years.

According to the Manager of Transformation Child Development Centre, the boy in question, sat for P.1 in 2015, at 9 years. But the police allegedly described the couple as having indulged in child to child sex.

Peter Mafabi, also said that it isn’t the First time for the controversial suspect to defile girls in Busolwe town council and the surrounding.
He reported that another 15 year old girl, sponsored by the Transformation Child Development Centre, has applied for exit from the Transformation program, because she has Love for the boy in controversy.

Meanwhile, Amiri Weere, another parent in Busolwe town council said that defilement has increased in the town. He also listed the causes like: poverty, hunger (where a girl softens for Chapati), and negligence of some parents.

However, Jennifer Ayesiga, the District Police Commander for Butaleja, in response said that the suspects in controversy are juveniles of 16 and 17 ages; moreover when the girl is older.

She further said that their file is still open and the Police can ably produce the couple to remand home.

Ms. Ayesiga, said that the Police cross examined the girl twice, to prove the reproductive health of the girl after the information which attarched her to pregnancy. The Nurses of Busolwe hospital allegedly released uncoordinated results, necessitating the diagnosis of the Police surgeon. She then warned that they will soon act on the Busolwe hospital medics, believed to be corrupt.

The district police commander, nevertheless, reported that they granted the Male juvenile a police bond, with the involvement of the Probation office. She said that juveniles aren’t supposed to be in the police cells beyond two days.
