Butaleja: The community members of Busabi sub county, Butaleja district, have raised fury over the nurses attached to Muhuyu health centre II, for what they described as negligence of duty.
The angry citizens say that Brenda Nankya, the in charge of Muhuyu, together with her 2 other colleagues at the station have little or no time for services, to the extent that a child allegedly died un attended to, in the very controversial health facility.
Michael Hanaba, for instance said that Muhuyu health centre II, opens at 9:00 AM and closes at midday. He also disclosed that only Brenda, the in charge surfaces at the local facility which serves 10 villages and parts of the neighbouring Tororo district.
Hanaba, further said that they sometimes, alternatively, seek services in the neighbouring Busabi health centre III, which is yet, a hard to reach area, with the thickness of Dumbu wetland papyrus.
Another patient, who preferred anonymity for own security reported that Brenda Nankya, the in charge of Muhuyu health centre II, who is heavily pregnant, at times emotionally locks up the drugs in the store, without delegation.
Brenda Nankya, the in charge of Muhuyu health centre II, when contacted, confessed that her place of work has issues, blaming it on understaffing. The heavily pregnant woman, further said that she’s cried to the office of the Health Officer for a solution, unsuccessfully.
Wycliffe Mutono, the district councillor for Busabi sub county, regretted for the mess in his area of origin. He reported that they lost a child last week, un attended to, yet with acute malaria. The councillor said that he has received numerous complaints about the dis order in Muhuyu health centre II.
Jimmy Nambiro, the assistant RDC for Butaleja district, in charge of education and health, blamed such a mess on the top district leadership which has failed to recruit a substantive Health Officer.
According to Nambiro, a Health Officer, in the acting position, is inferior to supervise the medical workers across Butaleja district.
The assistant RDC, however, promised to bring up the Acting District Health Officer, to address the matter.
By press time, Muhuyu health centre II, at 11:00AM, was closed. Some patients were seen shedding tears in dis belief.
