On Sunday, March 30, thousands of Muslims gathered in Bugema Twale to celebrate Eid-al-Fitr. Fifteen mosques united at Masjid Qubah, the Bugema Twale headquarters, for Eid prayers led by Sheikh Twale Bugema and Sh. Salim Sowedi Balwejila, representing Bugisu District Khadhi, Sh. Issa Ahmed Masaba.
In his remarks, Sh. Salim Sowedi Balwejila urged Muslims to use social media responsibly, avoiding hate speech that disrespects leaders. “Before sharing information, verify its truthfulness,” he emphasized.
Sh. Adam Hassan Higenyi from Masjid Taufiq delivered the sermon, highlighting the importance of fasting as a teacher in daily life. He encouraged Muslims to maintain their Ramadan habits, such as praying five times a day and giving charity. Sh. Adam also reminded the congregation to fast for six additional days, emphasizing that this practice is not exclusive to Imams or those who have committed wrongdoing.
Sheikh Magomu Yusuf, Dawah secretary of Bugema Twale, praised the successful Eid-al-Fitr prayer, which drew large numbers of Muslims from fifteen mosques. He encouraged Muslims to trust their leaders and heed the sermon’s message.
The Muslim community in Bugema Twale joined others worldwide in celebrating Eid-al-Fitr, promoting peace and unity through acts of charity, including zakatat fitr and sadaqah.
