Experts successfully castrate dogs, program continues today

Butaleja: The Butaleja district local government, together with Vet Connect experts, launched the castration of pets(dogs and cats), on Friday, in Budumba sub county, and the program is ongoing.
The program of neuter(castration), Spay(cervical operation), and mop up of pets vaccination against Rabies began on March 21 and will end on March 23. They began at Budumba sub county headquarters, move to Nabiganda town council head quarters today, and will end at Butaleja town council head quarters tomorrow.
Dr. Jackson Twebaze Ndahayo, the Butaleja district Veterinary Officer, says that they successfully, castrated some Male dogs, operated the cervix of the Females and vaccinated a few of those which were not vaccinated in the recently concluded program.
Ndahayo, said that they are equipped with the vaccines, and have the expertise for the surgery, urging the public to embrace the program, aimed at reducing the number of pets, which are increasingly biting the innocent citizens in Butaleja district, raising the fear for a possible outbreak of Rabies in the district.
He further revealed that they have a target of castrating over 100 dogs, cats, and shall vaccinate at least 300 pets of those which missed the recent vaccination exercise. The veterinary doctor, also said that they vaccinated 1,200 dogs in February.
He, however, fore warned the dog owners whose dogs missed the vaccination that they risk to be arrested if their pets dare to bite the innocent citizens in Butaleja district.
