Fisherman Murdered, Another Left Fighting for Life

A horrific incident occurred on Lake Lemwa in Pallisa District, Bukedi North Region, Tuesday at approximately 10:30 pm. A group of fishermen from Docha village, Nankondo sub-county, Kibuku District, attacked and overpowered three fishermen from Nsambya village, Kasodo parish/sub-county, Pallisa District.
The attackers disorganized the nets of their colleagues, sparking a chaotic situation that drew in over 20 fishermen from Docha village.
According to Moses Kitiyo Mwanga the Bukedi North region police commander,the three victims are Andrew Mukesi , Kesi Slyani, and Augustine Wunyi Isabilye, were left struggling to stay afloat after their canoe capsized.
He says tragically, Augustine Wunyi Isabilye, a 30-year-old fisherman, was repeatedly hit with sticks (pendlers) by the attackers, making it impossible for him to escape. His body was later recovered and taken to Pallisa Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Mwanga says Mukesi Andrew managed to catch their canoe and escape the danger, while Kesi Slyani was captured, taken to Docha village, and later found unconscious. He is currently admitted to Pallisa Hospital.
The incident was reported to Kasodo police post, and a case of murder and attempted murder by drowning was registered under PAL CRB 097/2025. The police have commenced investigations, recording statements from witnesses, issuing a police form to the survivor/victim, and documenting the crime scene.
Police commander says the police are now seeking to arrest the identified suspects from Docha village, Nankondo sub-county, for interrogation. The post-mortem examination is pending to ascertain the actual cause of Augustine Wunyi Isabilye’s death.
