Five Confirmed dead in Kampala floods as Muhoozi describes the situation as ’embarrassing’

Police in Kampala have confirmed five (5) people have lost their lives in floods that hit Kampala this morning after a heavy downpour.
The intense rainfall led to severe flooding, resulting in motor accidents, pedestrians being swept away by fast-moving water, and significant property damage.
In a statement released by the Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesman Luke Oweyesigire , police confirm five people have died in the floods.
“Regrettably, we confirm that five people have lost their lives due to the flooding. ”
Police Confirm that Three bodies were recovered from the Kinawataka area (we are working on having them identified), while two children, identified as Otim Kisa Eliza (3 years old) and Ochaka Chon (11 months old), tragically drowned in their home in Mulimira Zone, Bukoto.
Preliminary reports indicate that the mother, Lenunu Rose Mary, had locked the children inside the house while she went about her work. She has since been arrested by Kira Road Police on allegations of negligence, as neighbors claim this was a recurring practice.
The statement also indicates that the Kampala Metropolitan Police, in coordination with the Police Fire Prevention and Rescue Services, continues to respond to multiple emergency calls following the heavy downpour experienced in various parts of Kampala early this morning.
“Our rescue teams remain on the ground, assessing the situation and providing necessary assistance. We urge the public to take precautionary measures during heavy rains:
• Avoid unnecessary movement during downpours to prevent accidents.
• Boda boda riders are strongly advised not to risk crossing flooded roads and to wait until water levels recede for safe passage.
• Residents should secure their homes and ensure the safety of children, especially during extreme weather conditions.” A statement continues
Oweyesigire confirms that the bodies of the deceased have been conveyed to the City Mortuary, Mulago, for postmortem examination. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
We extend our deepest condolences to the affected families and urge the public to remain vigilant during this rainy season.
