Heavy rain kills Butaleja man, destroys property

The heavy rain, characterized by heavy storm and hail stones, has smashed houses in 3 villages of Bugalo Parish, Nawanjofu sub county, Butaleja district, and killed one ageing man in the affected area.
Mzee Mbaale, one of the leaders in Bunghemba clan, in Nawetaka village, allegedly died instantly when his house fell on him on Monday, during the heavy down pour.
Ivan Muhwana, an eye witness says that the rain, poured for over 2 hours, and also injured one Amuza of Bugalo, to the extent that he is struggling for his life in hospital.
Robina Mukisa best known as “Nafuya”(political nickname), the female district councillor for Nawanjofu sub county, decries that 6 houses were broken down in Bugalo parish, leaving several citizens homeless.
The councillor, shows worries for several other natives in her area of representation, whose houses are in poor state, and cried for government’s intervation. She, however, said that the nasty rain was the first since the start of 2025.
Bunyole West MP, Geoffrey Eric Mutiwa, also born of Nawanjofu, urged the Butaleja district Disaster committee to fasten the report about the tragedy, for him to present to the office of Prime minister for help. He also urged the community members to plant fast growing trees as a remedy against the storm.
