“How can you be accused of serious crimes and, then, your response is a hunger strike to generate sympathy for getting bail?” President M7 slams Besigye

President Yoweri Museveni has condemned Dr. Kizza Besigye’s tactic of Going on hunger strike to force his way out of jail.
The four time Presidential Candidate was arrested in Kenya for allegations of planning a coup in an audio that circulated in several social media platforms.
He has since been tried in the Court Martial to defend himself against the allegations. However with the recent Supreme Court ruling that banned civilians from being tried in Military Courts, there has been a hot debate with members of the opposition demanding that Besigye be transformed to civilian courts.
Museveni’s Bush Doctor has had his health detororiate with his lawyers lead by Kampala City Lord Mayor Erias demanding that he be given bail to attend to his health Issues.
On Monday, the Joint Opposition Committee visited Besigye and the leader of Delegation Kyagulanyi Ssentamu told the press that Besigye had gone on a hunger strike which worsened the situation.
The developments forced President Museveni, the Commander in Chief of all armed forces to issue a statement on the status quo.
He condemned Besigye for trying to seek public sympathy by going on a hunger strike. He also claimed that Besigye is okay in terms of health because his personal Doctors have been visiting him in Prison and hadn’t recommended anything of the sort.
“On the issue of sickness, there is, first of all, a Gov’t hospital in the Prison. Besides, Dr. Besigye’s personal doctors have been visiting him and even taking him to private clinics. If there was need for any additional medical care, the Gov’t would be advised.” President Museveni wrote oh his X account.
Museveni also revealed that Besigye’s intention is to blackmail the system and in a bid to cover his alleged crimes.
“Dr. Besigye, was on hunger strike. That is part of the cause for his weakness that we could see in the pictures that were in the Newspapers. Is that not unprincipled blackmail? How can you be accused of serious crimes and, then, your response is hunger strike to generate sympathy for getting bail, etc.? Why don’t you demand a quick trial? The military court was ready for the trial. Let us wait for the civilian court.” He added.
President Museveni also noted that Ugandan should be asking themselves what his former Doctor did to get himself arrested before demanding for his release.
“I have seen the concern by some Ugandans regarding the remanding of Dr. Besigye for the very serious offences, he is alleged to have been planning. If you want a stable country, the more correct question, should be: “Naye Dr.Besigye bamukwatila ki? Why was Dr.Besigye arrested?”.”
Museveni also boasted that no one can give them lectures on forgiveness and reconciliation. He also called for a quick trial of Besigye claiming that delayed justice causes insecurity.
“The answer to that is a quick trial so that facts come out. Otherwise, you are promoting insecurity which is very dangerous for the country. Nobody in the world can easily give us lectures on reconciliation and forgiveness because that is part of our doctrine right from the 1960s.”
He also noted that the Supreme Court ruling of having no civilians tried in military courts could be part of the reasons for the delay of justice for Besigye.
“Who slowed down the trial process? It is the Courts that pointed out some gaps in the Military Courts and they ordered the transfer of the cases to Civilian Courts. The concerned People are, therefore, working on two fronts. ”
“Transfer the files to the Civilian Courts from the Military Courts and the Gov’t and the legislators to close the gaps in the Military Courts. If you are innocent, why do you not demand for a quick trial so that you can prove your innocence and expose those who are “persecuting” you instead of demanding bail, forgiveness, as if serious crime is also entitled to holidays.”
