Hundreds gather to send off police officer in Butaleja

Butaleja: Hundreds of people have today afternoon gathered in Butaleja town council, Butaleja district, to send off Asp Yahudu Lando, a police officer who perished in Mbale hospital, on Monday.
The Chief Mourner was Mr. Abbas Ngwire Wasige, who represented AIP Abbas Agaba, the inspector General of Police. He thanked the people of Butaleja for maintaining peace in the district, reporting that the Inspector General of Police exempted Butaleja district from the districts with high crime rates.
Francis Okong, the District Police commander for Mbale, on behalf of the fallen Yahudu’s comrades with whom he qualified for policing in 2014, said that the deceased person has been soft spoken and much principled.
Winfred Waigo, the District Police Commander for Napak, where Yahudu Lando(RIP), has been serving, testified that the fallen officer was corrupt free, and a hard worker.
Jennifer Ayesiga, the District Police Commander for Butaleja, challenged the mourners to set a legacy, that will beautify their eulogy. She also decried that Butaleja has lost so far 4 police officers since last year.
Ayesiga, nonetheless, complained that few natives have responded to the application for Police Force, an ongoing exercise till March 21. She said that there is an open chance for police recruitment by merit. She condemned corruption in the recruitment exercise, and encouraged the affected applicants to report to the Dpc for help.
Ronnie Muyagu, who chaired the committee, which ensured a successful funeral, thanked the mourners for their solidarity and called for unity, for development in Butaleja district.
Mr. Muyagu, also asked the people of Butaleja to embrace the NRM government in order to register development in the area.
Juma Mulesa, the brother of Yahudu Lando(RIP), urged the parents to boost their children for education, explaining that it was only easy for Mulesa to easily send off his brother, because his education level enabled him to approach the relevant offices.
Yahudu Lando, 38, a brother of Juma Mulesa, who died on Monday, has been the o/c station for Napak police station, since March 2024.
He also served in Bundibujo, Kiryandongo, and Kasangati, police stations.
