Inspector of schools directs teachers to stop hiring players

Albert Wandera, the district inspector of schools in Butaleja district, has directed the teachers in Butaleja, to refrain from hiring players in the Schools’ teams for fame, arguing that it limits the talent development of learners and shameful to the district.
Officiating the district athletics competition at Mugulu integrated primary school on Friday, Mr. Wandera, emphasized that the school goers ought to enjoy their chance for talent development, and warned that the Ministry of education and sports has employed the Uganda Police to arrest any illegal participant who will take part in the National games at Kabale district in May.
The inspector, also urged the sports young men and women to cherish academics, and reported that their colleague: Luke Hasahya, a pupil of Bubali primary school in Busabi sub county, missed the international competition in Brazil, in 2023, in 100 meters because he didn’t understand the instructions given to them in English language.
Charles Nyumba, the district chairman of Butaleja Primary Head teachers’ Association, emphasized that athletics and ball games rhyme with the new education curriculum which calls for physical action and skilling. He added that such games earn the participants a good livelihood, giving the example of Ismail Watenga, Butaleja’s boy, now 1st goal keeper of the Uganda cranes, Chiprotich, Sabulya Faizal (100 meters) splinter, and the Fallen Paul Hasule, as some of the sports icons who earned a better living through sports.
Aggrey Hyuha, the sports chairman in the Butaleja district headteachers’ Association, broke the news of their readiness to facilitate the district team for Athletics to Kabale district in May. He also urged the parents to be supportive to their children for talent development. According to the sports teacher, some of the parents demean the ability of their children for physical exercises.
Relatedly, the Butaleja district sports committee for Secondary schools announced that they banned Busolwe Alliance secondary school from participating in the games for at least a year, citing the hire of illegal players in their school team.
Musa Kasajja Higenyi, the chair person of the Butaleja district secondary school sports Association, says that they have to pave way for the legible learners to develop their talents, against the school dropouts who participate for cash.
