Kibuku: A 59-year-old man, Patilisi Muduli, was found dead in Kibuku District, Bukedi North Region, in an apparent suicide by hanging.
The incident occurred on March 25, 2025, at around 2:26 am, with the body discovered by the victim’s wife, Amuleni Jane.¹
According to Moses Mwanga Kitiyo the Bukedi North police commander, Muduli had gone outside to check on his cows after supper, leaving his wife to sleep.
He says when Amuleni woke up and realized her husband had not returned, she searched for him and found his body hanging from a mango tree. Despite attempting to rescue him by cutting the rope, Muduli was already deceased.
Mwanga adds that police investigations have revealed that Muduli had a history of suicidal tendencies, particularly when he was annoyed.
He confirmed that police have opened a case file and are conducting inquiries, with the body conveyed to Mbale City mortuary for a postmortem examination.
This incident is not the first reported case of suicide in Kibuku District. In July, a 49-year-old man committed suicide using rat poison.
The district has also experienced other violent incidents, including mob lynching and murder.
