Mbale City acquires new grader out of local revenue

Mbale City Council have purchased a new grader Caterpillar type worthy 1.2bn shillings reg. No UA 117AE.
The Grader arrived on Friday night and was received by Mbale City Mayor Cassimu Namugali, Together with Deputy Speaker Abdallah Magambo and Hakim Watenyeli a member of the City Development Forum.
In his address, the Mayor told Mbale Express TV that it’s a historical moment and an incredible achievement to purchase something tangible from the tax payers money.
He noted that the grader is a sign of good leadership from Both Technical and Political Wing and praised Ex Town Clerk Ocen Ambrose who was transferred to Fort Portal.
He says the grader will be a great addition towards the quest for good roads in the City with the Current grader out of condition and unable to perform tasks especially in hard to reach areas like Lwasso and Bukonde.
“I want to thank the Tax payers of Mbale, like we promised the machine we have here is a brand new machine supplied by Madtruck Uganda and you know Caterpillar is on of the best brands in this.”
“If anything we might be the first local government to have purchased this, it’s quite expensive it’s 1.2bn as compared to Kumatsu that goes for around 900 to a billion.”
“I think we fulfilled our promise to the people that the small taxes won’t be shared amongst us as allowances but we need to leave something for legacy. ”
The Mayor also noted that the machines they have been using was borrowed from the regional workshop in Bugembe in Jinja.
“The current machine we borrowed it from Bugembe but with this new machine we shall be able to deal with the small roads in the City. ”
The Deputy Speaker Mbale City, Abdallah Magambo praised the councillors for the patience and resilience having sacrificed their allowances to facilitate the purchase of the grader.
Hakim Watenyeli, a senior citizen and members of the City Development Forum told the media that the acquisition of the grader is a huge step forward and appealed to the masses to embrace paying taxes especially those in distant places of Bukonde and Lwasso.
The mayor also revealed that the next phase of the USMID project is soon starting and the Roads in the City are bound to be much better than ever.
