Mbale District Passes out over 1900 patriots as authorities emphasize discipline

Mbale District has today Friday passed out 1938 patriots from six schools across Mbale District. The schools include Mulatsi SS, Nyondo SS, Busano SS, Nabumali SS, Bungoko SS and Nabumali High School which hosted the training.
The according to Wamalwa Augustine, a National Trainer and the Patron of Patriotism at Nabumali High School, the learners were taken through mindset change lessons, HIV and AIDS awareness, Historical Background of the Country and Physical fitness drills.
Madam Nabude Margret, the Patron of Patriotism in Mbale District who doubles as the head teacher Nabumali High School revealed that the Training has instilled discipline amongst the learners.
She noted that the training has created a good chemistry between the learners and that it will improve the relationship amongst them and reduce the conflict.
“We believe with this knowledge that the patriots have acquired; The patriots will love and respect one another, we don’t expect fights during inter school activities and we hope that we shall have protection of school image and public property”
“We expect them to behave well in school, at home or in Public.”
Moses Kutoi, the Mayor of Nabumali Town Council and a member of the Uganda People’s Congress UPC commended the NRM government for the great initiative in schools. He noted that the introduction of Patriotism has helped reduce strikes in schools unlike the early years when there was no program of the kind.
Bakumba Hannington Josep who Represented the District Education Officer, warned the School Boards and PTAs against creating illegal fees in schools. He noted that this is against the presidential directive as it has increased the rate of school dropouts.
Namarome Betty, Regional Patriotism Coordinator revealed that Patriotism is none partisan program that ought to be embraced by all Ugandans. She also noted that Patriotism is mandatory by law and a constitutional requirement.

She noted that the participants have been sensitized on introduction to Patriotism, Core Values of Patriotism and Importance of Patriotism, patriotic discipline and methods of work, Political History, Political Economy, Financial Literacy, Citizenship and Civic responsibilities, Health Issues (HIV and AIDS awareness), Community Policing among other fields.
She also adds that military drills have instilled discipline and also brought in the element of conscious discipline.
The Regional Coordinator also appealed to the participants to put in practice what they have been taught in the seven days of training.
“I take the pleasure to congratulate all the patriots upon this milestone and I emplore you to put in place the norms and values that you have learnt, Use them as Capital for Social Economic Transformation of Uganda”.
Col. (RTD) Shimanya Michael who served the UPDF for 42 years encouraged the students to take on the mantle and join the Military. He highlighted ICT, Engineering, medicine, Teaching as some of the professions that can be pursued and can be highly welcomed in the Military.
George Wopuwa, the RDC Mbale District officially passed out over 1900 Patriots and encouraged them to maintain discipline. He also commended the NRM Government for Improving the standards of the education sector.
Wopuwa says that unlike the early days when one needed to walk for long distances to access education, currently government has established a school in each Sub County.
As a Presidential Directive, all Schools are required to take their Senior one and five through a mandatory Patriotism training an exercise supervised directly by Office of the President.
