Minister Nambozo Bows Out of Sub-county Re-election, Sets Sights on District NRM Chairperson Slot

State Minister for Karamoja Affairs, Hon. Florence Nambozo, has announced that she will not participate in the re-election scheduled for Tuesday, May 20, 2025, following the botched election in Mutufu on Saturday afternoon. She made the announcement during an appearance on a local radio station on Monday evening.
Nambozo criticized the decision to hold the re-election on Tuesday, claiming it was a deliberate move to frustrate her mobilization efforts at the district level—plans she insists she will not abandon. Instead, she revealed her intention to seek nomination for the position of NRM District Chairperson and vowed to launch a vigorous grassroots mobilization campaign.
The minister accused the incumbent, Hajji Lumolo Mafabi, of sabotaging the electoral process, intimidating voters, and manipulating events in his favor. She further alleged that external groups were brought into Mutufu to disrupt the voting exercise, calling the incident unfair and undemocratic.
Nambozo stated that her decision to contest for the NRM Chairperson role is aimed at consolidating party support and fostering unity ahead of the 2026 general elections.
She also expressed concern over the mistreatment of her supporters, noting that many have been sidelined and harassed a situation she described as deeply regrettable.
Henry Gibisiwa, an NRM mobilizer, welcomed the minister’s decision, calling it a wise move that will benefit both the community and the party.
