Ministry of Health Confirms Polio Outbreak in Mbale City

The Ministry of Health has confirmed that there is a Polio outbreak in Mbale City.
In an audio statement released today, 25th September, 2024, the Ministry of Health says there is an outbreak of Polio in Mbale City and is going to carry out a mass immunization of children below 5 years.
The mass polio immunization will cover 49 districts neighboring Mbale City from Bugisu, Bukedi, Busoga, Teso, Sebei and Karamoja regions.
The Ministry plans to hold two rounds of polio immunization with the first House to House round taking off on Thursday 3rd October to 6th October. Health workers are expected to move to all public gathering places such as schools, Day Care Centers, Churches, Homes and Work Places.
This round of immunization does not replace the routine vaccination.
“The Ministry of Health is conducting a free house-to-house Polio Immunization campaign for children aged 5 years and below across 49 districts bordering Mbale City. This will take place from 3rd to 6th October, 2024. Please cooperate with the health workers to ensure your child is vaccinated against Polio,” reads the statement in part.
