Namisindwa district asst RDC in trouble over extortion allegation

Namisidwa: Namisindwa District’s Assistant Resident District Commissioner, Bosco Nabongo, is facing allegations of extortion after the district council passed a resolution calling for his investigation and temporary removal from the office.
The councilors accuse Nabongo of soliciting bribes from government-aided secondary and primary school head teachers who inflated student numbers under the government’s free education system.
The motion, moved by Councilor Parezi Weswa of Bungati sub county during council meeting today Friday, was backed unanimously by all councilors.
Alex Molokoi, Councilor and Secretary for Education, allage to have voice recordings which our reporter didn’t verify of Nabongo threatening head teachers to pay him between 100,000 to 500,000 shillings to avoid exposure and arrest.
He says that Nabongo has promoted corruption in the district rather than fighting as mandated by law.
Dorothy Nebokhe Walukawu, the Namisindwa district speaker is also doubling as Magale town female councilor says that these council resolutions they have passed are going to be taken to DPC to implement them.
She says they are going to the table all evidence in audio and council resolution to state house the appointing authority such that Nabongo can be transferred away from Namisindwa.
Peter Mutambo the Namisindwa district Uganda national teachers union Chairperson says that he got those complaints from a number of head teachers like Bukhabusi primary school and others.
Mutambo says he forwarded them to district education officers for further management.
Sophia Namutosi the Namisindwa acting education officer says that she has also been receiving complaints but has not yet got enough evidence to act on it.
Jackson Wakwaika the district LCV Chairperson calls for the transfer of Nabongo saying he has brought frights in both political and technical staff which is going to pull the district behind in terms of development.
He says any district to develop all leaders has to work together as teams which Nabongo has a voided.
However, Nabongo denies the allegations, stating that anyone with evidence can come forward, and he’s not above the law.
He believes the allegations stem from his efforts to fight corruption in the district, particularly his role in ordering the arrest of Bernard Kitongo, the district’s acting commercial officer, over allegations of soliciting money from PDM beneficiaries last month.
Nabongo says that all these wars are coming due his efforts to fight corruption in the district saying he will not threaten him and will continue arresting corrupt officers in the district.
After contacting Rogers Taitika the Elgon region police spokesperson says as police they have not so far received the council resolution to act.
