Namutumba UPE School Making Strides as Enrollment hits over 2600

Bugobi Primary School in Namutumba District is making strides in education, with an enrollment of 2,633 pupils and improved academic performance, thanks to strong parental support for the Universal Primary Education (UPE) program.
The school’s Academic Performance has also drastically improved, with no failure registered in last year’s PLE Results, and the lowest performance coming at the second division.
However, challenges remain, as the school faces a severe teacher shortage and infrastructure gaps.
The ONC officials; Ms Naigaga Lillian (District Coordinator) and Denis Muteguya (Regional Muzzukulu Coordinator) during their visit at the school on Friday discovered that only 14 government-employed teachers instead of the required 49. This means, one teacher is teaching over 150 learners, posing a huge burden for both pupils and the staff, pertinent issues that needs to be addressed for effective service delivery.
Another concern raised was the inadequate school infrastructure, where pupils in lower classes sit on the floor and many of the classroom blocks need renovation.
Additionally, the lack of teacher accommodation and issues with unpaid porridge fees are affecting the overall learning environment.
The DEO Namutumba, Dr. Isiko Mohammed who accompanied the ONC Coordinators on the visit praised government efforts, such as constructing new schools and increasing school inspectors, but also called for more funding to address these challenges.
Dr Isiko pledged to raise these issues with the District Education department and further to the Education Ministry.
