Regional: The National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) has embarked on a training exercise for registration assistants in the Bugisu region at Mbale secondary school.
This move aims to equip 1,594 registration assistants recruited last year across the country with the necessary skills to help the government register residents for new or renewed identification cards at the parish level.
According to Faridah Nassozi, NIRA’s communication head, the four-day training exercise, which started on Tuesday, will cover regional levels across the country.
She says the training will focus on teaching registration assistants how to operate computers, enter data, and perform other essential tasks.
Once trained, the registration assistants will be dispatched to various parishes to commence the registration exercise, pending government approval.
Two registration assistants, Peter Wamutu and Jessica Kituyi, expressed their enthusiasm for the training, confident that they will excel in their roles once fully trained.
