NSSF Urges Workers to Report Non-Compliant Employers

Workers in Uganda’s Eastern region are being urged to report employers who fail to remit their 15% monthly contributions to the National Social Security Fund (NSSF).
This call was made today Friday by Patrick Ayota, NSSF Managing Director, during eastern regional employers’ meeting in Mbale at Mbale resort hotel.
He says Employers with more than one worker are required by law to deduct 5% from employee salaries and contribute an additional 10%, totaling 15%, to NSSF.
Ayota says workers whose employers fail to remit their NSSF contributions are encouraged to report such cases to the NSSF office, which can order the company to pay the outstanding amount or face penalties.
He assured workers that their identities will be protected if they report their employers, addressing concerns about potential job loss.
Joseph Sajabi, Senior Commercial Officer at NSSF, highlighted the benefits of saving with NSSF, particularly for retirement.
He says NSSF is available to those who have attained age 55 and have been steadily contributing to the fund.
Some of the NSSF beneficiaries who attended the meeting expressed their happiness with meetings saying that NSSF savings have helped many people at their old age urging their fellow Ugandans to save their money at NSSF.
