PDM Beneficiaries Thriving in Alebtong Through Livestock and Poultry Farming, ONC Monitoring continues

Uganda – The Parish Development Model (PDM) continues to transform lives in Alebtong District, with beneficiaries investing in sustainable projects to improve their livelihoods. Among them are Awor Molly and Okello Jimmy, whose ventures into poultry and cattle farming are yielding positive results.
Awor Molly, a resident of Agweng Cell, Apado Ward, received UGX 1 million in December 2023. She invested in poultry farming, starting with 30 chicken, and has since grown her flock to 50. Some of her hens are already laying eggs, while others are being sold for income. To diversify, she also purchased two piglets at UGX 100,000 each. Although she faces challenges such as high feeding costs, lack of proper housing for her poultry, and occasional market shortages, she remains determined to expand her farm to 300 chickens.
Similarly, Okello Jimmy, from Apado Cell in the same ward, received UGX 1 million in August 2023 and invested in cattle rearing. He purchased a bull for UGX 900,000, using the remaining funds for treatment, clearing market dues, and transport. His investment is already showing promise, as he plans to fatten the bull for future sale at a higher price, ensuring long-term financial stability.
Mr. Ocen Robert, the Office of the National Chairman District Coordinator for Alebtong, commended them for utilizing the PDM funds wisely. He encouraged them to remain focused and continue expanding their projects to create more economic opportunities.
Mr. Ocen also assured them of continued government support, emphasizing the importance of patience and resilience in farming.
Despite challenges such as veterinary costs and market fluctuations, both Awor and Okello are optimistic about the future. They credit the PDM initiative for providing them with the capital to start businesses that are now improving their livelihoods.
Their success stories highlight the impact of government support in fostering self-reliance and economic growth at the grassroots level, inspiring others to make the most of the opportunities presented by development programs.
