Public discouraged from buying Actellic chemicals

BUTALEJA: The Butaleja district health inspector, Henry Isogoli, has advised the public to refrain from buying the drugs apparently being used for spraying against mosquitoes in the In door Residual spray(IRS) program.
Isogoli, told the media, that he has various reports that pin some spray operators in connection with illegal sale of the chemicals to especially ground nut growers, instead of using it accordingly. According to him, a lot of people believe that the chemicals, meant for spraying against mosquitoes, boost the yields of ground nuts, rice and vegetables; hence some farmers tend to divert some of the spray operators with cash.
He said that the Actellic chemicals, apparently used in the mosquito spray, is very harmful to human life and vowed to arrest whoever dares to take part in the illegal transactions.
Isogoli, also disclosed that they chose to apply Actellic chemicals because it smells excessively, to the extent of killing the sturbon mosquitoes instantly, and added that the smell of the chemical, also enables them to easily detect where spraying has been successful.
The officer, further revealed that they have arrested Two spray operators in connection with illegal sale of Actellic chemicals this week.
The spray exercise(In door Residual Spray), against the female arnophilis mosquitoes, which began on Feb 22, is expected to end on March 7.
