Mbale-based kickboxer and captain of Mbale Kickboxing Club, Sinani Lukwago, emerged victorious in a non-title fight against Kenya’s Hillary Andati on Friday, February 28, at Jenga Sports Rehabilitation outreach in Mbale City.
The highly anticipated match, which consisted of three rounds, saw Andati start strong in the first round. However, Lukwago gained momentum in the second and third rounds, ultimately securing the win.
In a post-match interview, Lukwago attributed his success to his commitment, hard work, and adherence to his coach’s instructions. “I appreciate everyone who supported me in this fight. My dream is to win an international trophy,” he stated.
Andati, on the other hand, expressed disbelief at his loss and vowed to return stronger. “I’ll go back, train harder, and ask for a rematch,” he promised.
The event drew a large crowd, including notable figures such as Deputy RCC in charge of Northern Division, Were Yahaya; Mbale City Mayor, Cassim Namugali; Industrial Division Speaker, Kasajja Musa; businessmen and women; and other sports stakeholders.
Despite the excitement surrounding the match, kickboxing clubs across the country are facing challenges due to the National Council of Sports’ decision to withdraw the certificate from the Federation of Kickboxing.
