SIRONKO: Residents of hard-to-reach areas in Sironko district, including Butandiga, Buchabo, and Butandiga Town Council, have yesterday Tuesday cried out for help due to the delay in repairing the Butandiga matelic ladders.
The ladders, which were lobbied by Vicente Wabuya are Mp at that time and was constructed in 2019 by the Ministry of Transport and Works at a cost of 300 million shillings, were damaged by a landslide last year and have not been repaired since.
The residents, led by Damascus Nasawali, the NRM Chairperson of Butandiga sub-county, while speaking to day Monday during stake consultative meeting organised by Waboya the former MP for Budadiri East constituency and hoping to bounce back in 2026 are appealing to the government to repair the ladders, which are the only connection between the three sub-counties.
Nasawali says lack of access has made it difficult for children to attend schools like Mbata Primary and Sigwa Primary, and has also affected the supply of food from the fertile soils in the area.
Ezekiel Nabubolo, the LCIII Chairperson of Butandiga sub-county, revealed that they have written several letters to the district chairperson and CAO, but have not received any feedback.
Stephen Gidongo, a resident, urged the Sironko district local government and the Ministry of Works to repair the ladders, emphasizing the importance of accessibility to the area.
Livingstone Giluli, the LCV Chairperson of Sironko district, acknowledged receiving a letter from area leaders about the breakdown of the ladders and promised to provide more information after consulting with the area councilor.
Vincent Waboya, the former area member of parliament, chaired a meeting where he urged the district leadership to provide answers to the people living in hard-to-reach areas.
