Storm survivors narrate their agony, call for support

A section of people who survived the tragic rain in Nawanjofu sub county, Butaleja district on Sunday, have narrated their agony, and are calling upon government for immediate help.
Eria Munyona, 93, one of the survivors of the heavy rain which was characterized by heavy wind and hail stones says that he lost his 3 pigs, latrine, and part of his house’s roof.
Mzee Munyona, also said that it was his first time to witness the nasty rain, which destroyed a lot of property and lives for the Nawanjofu dwellers, since when he was born.
Another, Daniel Nawato, son of Amos Guloba(who died of the storm), attributed the storm to lack of trees in the area, construction of semi permanent shelters, and challenged his fellow citizens to be prepared for disasters.
Joel Funa, a grandson to the Fallen Amos Guloba, advised the community members to omit the old trees at the verge of collapsing, near the houses; but he urged them to plant more of the young trees as a remedy to the disaster. He, also thanked God for those who survived the tragic rain. Funa, nevertheless, emphasized that bad rain is common, whenever weather patterns change.
Doreen Nawane, a native of Nawetaka, where several homesteads tested the wrath of bad rain on Sunday, advised the community members to always build strong houses with cement. Nawane, who is also an aspirant for Butaleja district woman MP ship, argued that Guloba perished in his house easily because it was merely built of sand and poorly roofed.
Meanwhile, Isaac Mujasi, the area LCI, of Nawetaka, the most affected village by the storm, said that 7 houses were broken down in his village, leaving at least 40 people homeless, and several banana plantations were destroyed.
On Tuesday, Nawanjofu sub county’ female district councillor, Robina Mukisa, best known as “Nafuya”, political nickname, reported that 6 homes were destroyed in Nawanjofu, Bugalo Parish; adding that 1 person died instantly when the house fell on him, While another, identified as Amuza was taken I’ll to hospital, upon having sustained injuries.
Geoffrey Eric Mutiwa, the MP for Bunyole West, maintains that he will present the concern to the office of the Prime Minister of Uganda, but urges the district disaster committee to fasten their report about the mess.
