Two individuals, Samuel Opio and Emma Okello, have been arrested today Thursday in Mbale City over allegations of human trafficking.
They are associated with Iglow Company, a registered entity that has been operating illegally in the city.
According to Asumin Nasike, the Mbale Resident City Commissioner, Iglow Company has been collecting over 200 youths from different districts in the Teso region, promising them jobs.
She says each individual was allegedly asked to pay Shs 1.5 million for registration, with the promise of securing employment in and around Mbale Town which will make them earn 500,000/= per month.
Nasike stated that some victims approached her office, revealing how the company had swindled them out of large sums of money under the guise of job opportunities. Despite paying the fees, the victims have not secured jobs, even after four months.
The police, in collaboration with the RCC, arrested the two suspects, who are currently being detained at Mbale Central Police Station. Investigations are ongoing, and the victims have been advised to return to their homes.
