UACE brings smiles on faces of school heads in Bugisu region

The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has today 14 march released the 2024 Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) results, revealing a significant improvement in performance compared to 2023.
The exams, conducted from November 11 to December 6, 2024, saw higher pass rates at nearly all levels, reflecting better preparation and academic achievement.
A total of 54,338 candidates attained three principal passes, up from 52,630 in 2023.
Those securing two principal passes rose to 37,935 from 28,186, while the number of candidates with one principal pass also increased. Subsidiary-level passes grew from 8.4% in 2023 to 12.6% in 2024.
Female candidates continued to outperform males proportionally, with 43.7% securing three principal passes compared to 34.6% of males.
In total, 71.2% of females attained at least two principal passes, surpassing the 61.1% rate among males. Despite this, male candidates remained higher in absolute numbers due to larger enrollment.
Performance in General Paper also improved, with 81.9% of candidates achieving grades A-E, up from 81.6% in 2023.
A rising interest in sciences was noted, particularly among female candidates, with Mathematics entries increasing from 45,414 in 2023 to 58,495 in 2024.
Special groups, including 49 candidates from Uganda Government Upper Prison, all qualified for UACE certificates, further highlighting broader educational inclusivity.
How Schools performed in the region:
In mbale city and Bugisu region, it was full of celebrations since the performance of the schools in the region was outstanding.
The the schools visited by our reporters, were Mbale senior secondary schools regarstering their best student offering sciences PCM in the names of Walyelya Collins with 20 points and followed by other four students with 19 points one Bikala Emmanual offering BCM, BCM Nabutanyi Godfrey, PEM Mukonyi Isaac and Nandala Sudice the best Arts student with 18 points the head teacher said.
He also said that this time round sciences have over powered art subjects. However he attributed the hard work from the hardworking teachers, the right time payment of parents and friendship of mbale ss with other sister schools.
At Nabumali High school, the performance was really outstanding the headteacher said.
We may not have been the best in the country but we have improved compared to the previous years. We had 61 students and the best got 17 points who is non other than Munoga Mustafa doing PCM and also Nagudi Gloria offering HED.
