Uganda Tourism Board Launches 2.6km Sipi Tourism Road
By Weswa Ronnie
The Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) has today Wednesday launched a 2.6-kilometer tourism road in Kapchorwa district.
The road was constructed in partnership with the Kapchorwa district local government.
According to Simon Kaita, CEO of UTB, the road was constructed to boost tourism in the district by improving access to Sip Falls, a popular tourist site.
Kaita noted that the lack of roads had previously hindered tourists’ ability to reach the site, prompting the UTB to invest 160 million shillings in the project.
Evelyn Chebeti, Chairperson of Kapchorwa district local government, expressed her gratitude for the launch, highlighting the potential benefits for the local population through tourism.
She encouraged residents along the road to utilize it for transporting agricultural products to Kapchorwa town, thereby boosting their household income.
Local residents welcomed the road project, citing improved accessibility and opportunities to sell artisanal crafts to tourists visiting Sipi Falls.
