The Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) has embarked on a countrywide tour to explain the legitimacy of Mufti Shaban Mubaje’s re-election.
Mubaje was recently given a second term as Mufti of Uganda, despite concerns over the constitutional age limit of 70 years. The UMSC claims the re-election is valid under the 2022 constitution.
Ashirafu Muvawala, UMSC Communication Officer, asserts to different Musilem county leaders from Bugisu region on Saturday at Hamudan girls secondary school located at Malukhu ,Industrial city division in Mbale city that Mubaje’s re-election is legitimate and urges the rival faction to join forces to develop the Muslim community.
He says the Kibuli faction has expressed dissatisfaction, alleging that Mubaje’s election was illegal. Muvawala attributes this to false information which Muslims should disassociate with.
The countrywide tour aims to clarify the election process and address misconceptions among Muslims.
Mbale District Kadi, Isiah Masaba Pole, welcomes the initiative, hoping it will enlighten Muslims about the legitimacy of Mubaje’s election.
Muslim leaders at Bugisu region, like Twlibu Magombe, are encouraged to disseminate accurate information about Mubaje’s re-election to the Muslim community.
Muvawala urges the aggrieved side to put aside differences and work together to develop the Muslim community.
