‘We are at risk’ Museveni warns Bunyoro Leaders over school charges in government schools

President Yoweri Museveni has emphasised free education in Government schools.
While meeting leaders from Bunyoro sub region , Museveni says expressed fear of the increasing number of school drop outs due to the charging of illegal fees in UPE and USE schools.
“We need to address the issue of free education. We are at risk due to the high dropout rates among our children, right from primary school”. President Museveni
Museveni says that interventions like Parish Development Model and Emyooga can only be effective if free education in schools is enforced.
” While several strategies may make developmental sense, I strongly believe that free education for all, PDM, and the Emyooga are critical programs for achieving socio-economic transformation. These initiatives involve everyone and can drive progress for our society”.

Museveni also advised Bunyoro leaders to work with in the available resources. This was after they presented to him a long memorandum of requests.
” I advise you to plan for development in their areas based on the available resources.”
He highlighted his 16 year struggle in the bush without pay which later created a big army with discipline.
“Having been in the army for 54 years, since 1971, we have often worked for little or no pay. During our fight against Amin, we asked Nyerere for guns only; if we had asked for salaries, where would he have found the money to do so? For 16 years during the struggle, we fought for free. When we joined the government, we began to receive pay. Our strong army is a testament to our discipline.”

“Uganda’s long journey to its current development is strategically based on the available resources over time, which is why the government has steadily managed to achieve real development.”
