World Tourism Celebrations fire up Mbale and Kampala

Celebrated annually on the 27th Sept, the event is purposed to highlight tourism’s social, cultural, political and economic value to Economies.
As the countdown to World Tourism Day heats up, Mbale is getting fired up by the minute. Like an active beehive, its streets are buzzing with energetic Kadodi dances amidst ear wrecking ululations, parking spaces are running out of room and accommodation facilities are doubling their rates to match the overwhelming influx of over 20,000 camera trotting tourists who have flocked the town to celebrate this year’s World Tourism Day, scheduled for tomorrow 27th Sept at Mbale stadium.
Under the theme Tourism and Community Development, this years’ celebrations according to Edwin Muzahura the Public Relations Officer UTB will be used to highlight the fact that the tourism sector has stood out as the country’s biggest employer employing one of every 10 people Nationally in related activities such as Hoteling, tours and travels, education, wildlife among others.
“Taking this into consideration, Uganda Tourism Board will use the event to share with the public how they can fruitfully exploit the Tourism industry with the intent of empowering them to develop themselves and their communities.”
